It's a Whole New Year!

I love January, where the entire year glistens like a new car, pristine and stretching out before us with infinite good possibilities... I'm hoping and wishing this year for a good dry spring, early shearing, and some decent fleeces.  The past 2 years have given us very little good wool to work with, we've been living off our previously huge stash of quality wool from 3 years ago, and we're about due for a nice influx of good stuff.  All it takes is a good week or two of dry weather in the April-May area....I'll keep my hopes up!  Meanwhile, with the wind and rain blustering outside, it's perfect weather to stay indoors and play with fiber.  I received about 2 lb. of gorgeous silvery natural colored mohair for Christmas, and can't wait to take it for a test drive.  And this month our spinning class (3rd Saturday of every month) is concentrating on linen, (January, white sale month) so I'm carding up some really nice Linsey-Woolsey to entertain the beginning and intermediate spinners.  Bright colors cheer up otherwise drab days, it's the perfect time of year to start a knitting or crochet project in fully saturated brilliant hues.  And spring is just around the corner already, my camellias are budding, and the daffodils are beginning to poke their leaves up already.  My sheep have become extremely friendly, hoping for a daily bucket of grain, which I've been obliging them with.  Have fun playing with your shiny new year!
